Elvyttämistoimet, often translated as resuscitation measures, refer to a set of emergency procedures performed when a person's breathing or heart function has stopped. The primary goal is to restore spontaneous breathing and circulation, thereby preventing irreversible damage to vital organs, especially the brain, and potentially saving a life. These interventions are typically initiated by trained individuals, including medical professionals and first responders, but also increasingly by the general public through widely available training programs.

The cornerstone of modern resuscitation is Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), which combines chest compressions and artificial ventilation. Chest compressions manually pump blood through the body when the heart has stopped. Artificial ventilation, or rescue breaths, provides oxygen to the lungs. The specific techniques and guidelines for CPR are regularly updated by international resuscitation councils based on the latest scientific evidence.

In addition to CPR, other essential elvyttämistoimet may include the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
