Ellon

Ellon is a town and parish in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, situated on the River Ythan about 16 miles (26 km) north of Aberdeen. It forms part of the Buchan area and lies within the Aberdeenshire Council area. The town serves as a market town and service centre for the surrounding rural hinterland and benefits from proximity to the Ythan Estuary, a coastal salt marsh and wildlife habitat.

The origin of the name Ellon is uncertain, with several speculative etymologies linking it to historic languages of the region. The settlement has medieval roots and developed through the centuries as a focal point for trade, agriculture and, later, local industry.

In the modern era, Ellon has grown as a residential and commercial hub, with shops, schools, healthcare facilities and leisure amenities.
