Elküldend

Elküldend is a Hungarian word that roughly translates to "sent off" or "dismissed" but is often used in the context of being removed from a position of power or an official capacity. It can also imply expulsion or exclusion. This term gained significance in modern Hungarian politics and history, particularly in the context of the Széchenyi affair, a controversy that led to the downfall of a prominent politician, Count István Széchenyi, in the early 19th century.

Széchenyi was an influential statesman at the time, having advocated for important reforms and infrastructure projects that shaped Hungary's development at that point. However, he lost favor with his peers, mainly due to disagreements over his representation and diplomacy towards the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Eventually, he voluntarily gave up his office a Senate servant in Budapest. Despite Széchenyi's significant contribution to Hungarian politics, his being sent off, in the words of contemporary Hungarian historian, Pauler Gyula, can be seen as representing the vulnerable balance between power, ideology and loyalty that was central in Hungarian society at the time.

This terminology has occasionally reappeared in other Hungarian historical and modern events, including various partitions and recalls of esteemed politicians, with varying implications and degrees of influence within the public discourse and scholarly analyses.
