Elektroditasapainoon, also known as electrodialysis, is a membrane-based separation process used to demineralize water or concentrate dissolved salts. It is a form of electrodialysis reversal (EDR), which is a continuous process that alternates the polarity of the electrodes to prevent scaling and fouling of the membranes.

The process involves a series of alternating anion and cation exchange membranes, which are placed between two electrodes. When an electric current is applied, anions (negatively charged ions) migrate towards the anode, while cations (positively charged ions) migrate towards the cathode. This results in the separation of the ions from the water, producing demineralized water and concentrated brine.

Electrodialysis is commonly used in the desalination of brackish water, the production of ultrapure water for industrial processes, and the treatment of wastewater. It is an energy-efficient process that requires less energy than traditional thermal desalination methods. However, it is sensitive to the quality of the feed water and the condition of the membranes, which can affect the performance and lifespan of the system.

The main advantages of electrodialysis include its high selectivity, low energy consumption, and the ability to produce high-quality water.
