Elektrilõhe

Elektrilõhe, scientifically known as Electrophorus voltai, is a species of weakly electric fish belonging to the genus Electrophorus. This remarkable creature is native to the Amazon and Orinoco river basins in South America. It is one of three known species of electric eels, though often the term "electric eel" is used generically to refer to all of them. Elektrilõhe are known for their ability to generate electric discharges, which they use for hunting, defense, and navigation.

The electric organs of an elektrilõhe are highly specialized and occupy a significant portion of its body length. These organs are derived from modified muscle tissue and can produce a voltage that, while not as powerful as some other electric fish, is sufficient to stun prey like fish and amphibians. The specific voltage output can vary depending on the species and the situation.

In terms of appearance, elektrilõhe are elongated, snake-like fish. They typically have a dark coloration, often brown or black, and can grow to considerable lengths, with some individuals exceeding two meters.
