Elektrilõõma, also known as electric shock, is a physiological reaction that occurs in the human body when it comes into contact with an electric current. The severity of the electric shock depends on several factors, including the voltage, current, resistance, and duration of contact. Low voltage shocks may cause a mild tingling sensation, while high voltage shocks can result in severe burns, muscle contractions, cardiac arrest, and even death.

When an electric current passes through the body, it can disrupt the normal electrical signals that control vital functions. This can lead to muscle spasms, making it difficult for the affected person to let go of the electrical source. The current can also heat up tissues, causing thermal burns. The most dangerous effect of electric shock is its impact on the heart. Electric current can interfere with the heart's natural rhythm, leading to ventricular fibrillation, a chaotic and ineffective heartbeat that requires immediate medical intervention.

The human body's resistance to electricity varies. Dry skin offers higher resistance than wet skin. Therefore, individuals working in damp environments or with wet hands are at a greater risk of experiencing a severe electric shock. Proper safety precautions, such as using insulated tools, avoiding contact with damaged electrical wiring, and ensuring electrical equipment is properly grounded, are crucial for preventing electric shocks. In case of an electric shock, it is important to immediately cut off the power source and seek medical attention.
