Elektrikaarkeevitus

Elektrikaarkeevitus, also known as arc welding, is a fusion welding process that utilizes an electric arc to generate heat to melt and join metal pieces. The electric arc forms between an electrode and the base metal, creating a high-temperature plasma that melts the surrounding material. As the molten metal cools and solidifies, it forms a strong, continuous weld.

There are several common types of arc welding. Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), often called stick welding, uses a consumable electrode coated in flux. This flux melts and creates a shielding gas and slag layer to protect the weld pool from atmospheric contamination. Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), or MIG welding, uses a continuous wire electrode fed through a welding gun. A shielding gas, typically argon or a mixture of gases, is supplied externally to protect the weld. Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), or TIG welding, uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode and a separate filler metal, if needed. An inert gas, usually argon, shields the weld.

The choice of arc welding process depends on factors such as the type and thickness of the metal, the required weld quality, and the welding environment. Proper safety precautions, including eye protection, protective clothing, and ventilation, are essential when performing arc welding.
