Elektoliittiympäristö refers to a medium that contains free-moving ions, allowing it to conduct electricity. This conductivity arises from the presence of dissolved salts, acids, or bases, which dissociate into positively and negatively charged ions when dissolved in a solvent, typically water. These mobile ions are then capable of carrying an electric current when an electric potential is applied.

Common examples of electrolytes include aqueous solutions of sodium chloride (table salt), sulfuric acid, and potassium hydroxide.
