Einwurf

Einwurf refers to a specific type of throw-in in certain sports, most notably football (soccer). It is the method by which play is restarted when the ball has gone out of bounds over the sidelines. The player performing the einwurf must stand with both feet on the ground, behind the touchline, and throw the ball with both hands from behind and over their head. The ball must be released from the point where it crossed the touchline.

The rules for a valid einwurf are designed to ensure a fair restart of play. If the einwurf is not performed correctly, for example, if the player lifts a foot or does not use both hands, the referee can award an einwurf to the opposing team. The player taking the einwurf cannot touch the ball again until another player has touched it. This rule prevents players from gaining an unfair advantage by immediately receiving their own throw.
