Eikoulutettu

Eikoulutettu is a Finnish term formed from ei (not) and koulutettu (educated). It can be translated as not educated or without formal education. In standard Finnish, the more common construction is ei koulutettu (two words) or phrases such as ei koulutusta. The single-word form eikoulutettu appears mainly in informal writing or as a coined label and is not widely used in formal language.

Usage and scope: The term is typically applied in discussions of education, social policy, and demographic research to denote individuals who have not completed formal schooling or who lack recognized educational credentials. Its use is more common in descriptive contexts than as a legal category, and it is often ambiguous because literacy levels and informal learning can vary independently of formal schooling.

Context: In policy and statistics, more precise terminology is preferred, such as no formal education or low educational attainment, often combined with literacy and skill indicators. The label eikoulutettu can be stigmatizing and is thus used cautiously, if at all, in official discourse.
