Eemeren

Eemeren is a municipality in the Netherlands, located in the province of North Holland. It is part of the Gooi en Vechtstreek region and lies to the northwest of Amsterdam and north of Hilversum. The municipality was established on 1 January 2016 by merging the former municipalities of Kortenhoef, Loosdrecht and Nederhorst den Berg. It covers rural countryside and several water bodies, including the Loosdrechtse Plassen, a group of lakes that are popular for boating and nature recreation. The three towns—Kortenhoef, Loosdrecht and Nederhorst den Berg—are the main population centres, with smaller villages and hamlets connected by local roads.

The local government consists of a municipal council and a mayor. The council is elected by residents and is responsible for local policy on housing, transportation, nature conservation, services, and general planning. The area is characterized by its green spaces, waterways and small-scale agriculture. Economically, Eemeren relies on tourism, services, light industry in surrounding areas, and residents who commute to larger nearby cities such as Amsterdam and Hilversum. The region offers outdoor recreation, cycling routes and water sports on the Loosdrechtse Plassen.

Eemeren is served by regional roads and public transport connections that link it with the Randstad metropolitan area. It participates in intermunicipal collaborations focusing on water management, nature conservation and regional planning. The municipality supports cultural events and local heritage tied to its lakes and rural landscape.
