Econoline

The Econoline is a full-size van produced by Ford Motor Company. Introduced in 1960, it was originally marketed as a smaller, more economical alternative to existing van offerings. The first generation was built on a truck-like chassis and was available in cargo and passenger configurations. Over its long production run, the Econoline has undergone several significant redesigns, adapting to changing market needs and technological advancements.

Throughout its history, the Econoline has been known for its versatility. It has served as a work vehicle for tradespeople, a passenger transport for families and shuttle services, and a base for various custom conversions, including RVs and camper vans. Ford has offered a range of engine options for the Econoline, typically including gasoline V8s, and in some markets, diesel engines.

In 1992, Ford introduced a major redesign, moving to a body-on-frame construction with a more integrated cab and a distinct engine cover within the passenger compartment. This generation became widely recognizable for its distinctive front-end styling. As of 2021, the Econoline van lineup is primarily known as the Ford Transit. While the name "Econoline" has largely been phased out in North America, the legacy of this long-standing van continues in the modern Ford Transit. The Econoline name itself has become synonymous with robust, utilitarian vans in the North American automotive landscape.
