Ealla

ealla is a constructed language created for worldbuilding and fictional settings. It is described as part of the fictional Ealla language family, a small group of languages developed by authors and language hobbyists. As with many conlangs, ealla has no historical attestations outside its design notes and community materials.

In its fictional world, ealla is spoken on the island chain of Neral and along the eastern coast of Verdan. It comprises several dialects, with Northern Ealla and Southern Ealla being the most widely referenced. The language appears in novels, games, and roleplaying materials, where it is used to convey cultural and geographic distinctions through its variation.

Linguistic features of ealla include an agglutinative morphology, SVO word order, and a system of postnominal case particles. Nouns mark number and definiteness with suffixes; verbs encode tense, aspect, mood, and evidentiality through suffixes and auxiliary elements. The phoneme inventory typically includes around 18 consonants and 5 vowels; stress is commonly penultimate. The language allows modest word-internal consonant clusters and uses vowel harmony across morphemes in some dialects.

Writing and orthography: ealla has a native syllabary in older texts, but contemporary writing mostly uses a Latin-based alphabet with diacritics to indicate vowel quality and stress. A community orthography guide provides standard spellings for public materials, though regional fan publications retain variants.

Usage and reception: ealla is primarily studied and expanded by hobbyists and writers rather than used as a daily language. Dictionaries, grammars, and sample texts circulate in informal networks, supporting worldbuilding projects and linguistic experimentation within conlang communities.
