EUdirektívák

EUdirektívák, or EU Directives, are a type of legislative act of the European Union which obliges member states to achieve a particular result without dictating the precise form and methods for achieving it. Directives are binding as to the result to be achieved, but leave to the national authorities the choice of form and methods. They are adopted by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union.

Directives must be transposed into national law by each member state within a specified period, usually two years. This means that member states must adopt national laws, regulations, or administrative provisions to implement the objectives set out in the directive. If a member state fails to transpose a directive correctly or on time, the European Commission can initiate infringement proceedings against that state, which can ultimately lead to a ruling by the Court of Justice of the European Union.

The purpose of directives is to harmonize laws across member states in areas where such harmonization is deemed necessary for the proper functioning of the internal market or to achieve other EU objectives. Examples of areas covered by directives include consumer protection, environmental protection, and company law. Directives are a key tool for the EU to create a more integrated and cohesive Europe.
