EEGvizsgálat

EEGvizsgálat, or electroencephalography, is a non-invasive neurophysiological monitoring method used to record the electrical activity of the brain. It is performed by placing electrodes on the scalp, which detect and amplify the tiny electrical signals generated by neurons. These signals are then displayed as wavy lines on a computer screen, representing brain waves.

The primary purpose of an EEGvizsgálat is to diagnose and monitor various neurological conditions. It is particularly useful in identifying abnormalities associated with epilepsy, such as seizures, by detecting characteristic patterns of abnormal brain activity. EEGvizsgálat can also help in evaluating sleep disorders, brain damage from head injuries, strokes, tumors, and inflammatory conditions of the brain. Additionally, it can be used to assess brain function in patients in a coma or those with suspected brain death.

During the procedure, the patient typically sits or lies down comfortably. Electrodes, often attached with a conductive paste, are placed on specific locations of the scalp according to a standardized system. The recording usually lasts between 20 to 60 minutes, though longer recordings, such as overnight sleep EEGs, may be necessary. Patients are often asked to perform simple tasks like closing their eyes, opening them, or breathing deeply to elicit specific brain responses. While generally painless and risk-free, some individuals might experience minor skin irritation from the electrode paste. The interpretation of the EEGvizsgálat is complex and is performed by trained neurologists who analyze the patterns and characteristics of the brain waves.
