EDSEDX

EDSEDX is a collaborative data-exchange platform and standard set designed to enable secure sharing and interoperable analysis of research data across institutions and sectors, including education, science, and engineering. It emphasizes reproducibility, provenance, and policy-aware access control to support cross-institutional projects.

Initiated in 2020 by a consortium of universities, research labs, and technology partners, EDSEDX released its first open-source core in 2022. It is stewarded by the nonprofit EDSEDX Foundation, which coordinates standards development, governance, and community participation. The project remains openly licensed and widely community-driven.

EDSEDX adopts an API-first architecture with modular components. Core elements include the EDSEDX Data Model (EDX-DM) for metadata and datasets, a Provenance Ontology (EDX-PROV) to document processing steps, and policy-managed access controls. The platform supports RESTful and GraphQL interfaces, data catalogs, and audit trails, with emphasis on interoperability.

Key features include a centralized data catalog, dataset versioning, lineage tracking, and reproducible workflow execution.
