EDSA

The EDSA refers to the Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, a major circumferential highway in Metro Manila, Philippines. It is one of the most significant and busiest thoroughfares in the country, serving as a vital artery for transportation and commerce. The avenue is named after Epifanio de los Santos, a renowned historian and the first university president of the Philippines.

EDSA stretches approximately 23.8 kilometers (14.8 miles) from Monumento in Caloocan City to the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) in Parañaque City. It passes through several key cities within Metro Manila, including Quezon City, Mandaluyong, San Juan, Makati, and Pasig. The avenue is characterized by its multiple lanes, numerous intersections, and extensive public and private infrastructure lining its sides.

Historically, EDSA is famously known as the site of two peaceful popular uprisings that significantly shaped Philippine political history. The first, the People Power Revolution in 1986, led to the ousting of Ferdinand Marcos. The second, the EDSA Revolution of 2001, resulted in the removal of Joseph Estrada from the presidency. These events have cemented EDSA's place not just as a physical road but as a symbol of collective action and democratic change in the Philippines.
