E53 is the internal BMW chassis designation for the first generation of the X5 sport utility vehicle, produced from 1999 through 2006. It marked BMW’s entry into the luxury SUV segment and aimed to combine off-road capability with the brand’s characteristic on-road dynamics and refinement.
