This system is common in monarchies and empires, where the holder of the highest office is usually the ruling member of the dynasty.

Dynasties often arise from the founder of a new state or the upholder of a previous dynasty, and the rule of the dynasty is maintained through successive generations. Many notable dynasties have risen and fallen throughout history, leaving lasting impacts on politics, culture, and society. The rule of an heir may offer stability through familiarity with the existing system of governance, but it also introduces the threat of hereditary succession crises.

Dynasties are widely seen as a means to transfer knowledge, drift from royal ambitions, distribute to power securely or periodically fly alongside reserve crowns to organized authorities.
