Dynamophones
Dynamophones were early mechanical musical instruments that produced sound through the use of rotating discs and vibrating reeds, similar in principle to a hurdy-gurdy or a music box. Invented in the late 19th century, the term "dynamophone" often referred to a specific type of instrument developed by Thaddeus Cahill, although other similar devices existed. Cahill's original instrument, completed around 1897, was a massive electromechanical organ. It utilized a system of rotating dynamos to generate electrical signals, which were then amplified and sent to loudspeakers. This was a pioneering effort in electronic music synthesis.
The dynamophone, particularly Cahill's version, was notable for its ability to produce a wide range of tones
