Dwevill

Dwevill is a fictional town in a northern high fantasy setting, frequently used in tabletop role-playing campaigns. It is described as lying in the valley of Garan, at the edge of the Darkwood, with a cool, misty climate and stone architecture.

The name Dwevill is of uncertain origin; in-universe scholars propose a pre-kingdom root meaning edge of water, while others suggest a genealogical term from a founder named Dwe.

Situated at the confluence of the River Keld and a basalt ridge, the population is around 2,500 in-universe census. The economy is based on mining iron-rich ore from the ridge, timber from surrounding forests, and a market that draws traders from neighboring settlements.

Founded in the early era by clans and later incorporated as a free town, Dwevill is governed by a town council with a mayor chosen by vote each year. Law is administered by marchers and a constable, with notable influence from the guilds of smiths, carpenters, and merchants.

Dwevill is noted for crafts in ironwork and woodcarving and hosts an annual Ember Night festival. Landmarks associated with the town include the Dwevill Forge, the Grey Market, and the Stonewatch Tower.
