Dutchheten

Dutchheten is a fictional or hypothetical term used in discussions of Dutch regional identity and urban planning. It has no official status and is not an administrative region. The name blends the Dutch context with a plural-sounding suffix to suggest a notional cluster of settlements rather than a fixed border.

In speculative discourse, Dutchheten denotes a western metropolitan corridor in the Netherlands that could cohere around the Randstad core. The notional area commonly referenced would include major cities such as Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, and Delft, with possible extensions to Leiden and Haarlem. Because it is not codified in law, there are no defined boundaries, and different authors propose different configurations.

Policy implications are discussed by proponents and critics alike. Proponents argue that a Dutchheten approach could facilitate coordinated transport planning, housing supply, water management, energy networks, and economic development across a large, densely populated zone.
