Duroplastid

Duroplastid is a term encountered in limited, non-mainstream literature to denote a hypothetical plastid with enhanced durability or resistance to degradation. It is not an officially recognized plastid type in standard plant biology references. The name combines Latin roots duro- meaning hard or durable with plastid, an organelle involved in photosynthesis, storage, or synthesis in plant cells.

In the contexts where it appears, duroplastid is often discussed as a speculative concept in debates about plastid evolution, preservation, or robustness under stress conditions. Because there is no consensus definition, there is no standard morphology, genetic program, or functional repertoire attributed to duroplastids. Some discussions may use the term loosely to describe plastids with thickened envelopes or rigid internal structures as hypothetical models, but such associations are not corroborated by empirical evidence.
