Duelism

Duelism refers to a philosophical or theological concept that posits the existence of two fundamental, irreducible, and often opposing principles or forces. These dualities can manifest in various forms, such as good versus evil, spirit versus matter, or mind versus body. In some belief systems, these opposing forces are seen as eternally co-existent and in constant struggle, shaping the nature of reality and human experience. Other interpretations view one principle as ultimately dominant or as a necessary counterpart to the other, rather than an equal adversary.

The concept of dualism is not monolithic and appears in diverse contexts. Manichaeism, for instance, is a prominent historical example of religious dualism, presenting a cosmic battle between a good, spiritual realm and an evil, material realm. Similarly, certain philosophical traditions explore the mind-body problem through a dualistic lens, suggesting that mental phenomena are distinct from physical processes. The implications of duelism often extend to ethics, cosmology, and the understanding of human nature, influencing how individuals perceive their place in the universe and their moral obligations.
