Dubbelering

Dubbelering is a Dutch noun formed from dubbel and -ering. The exact meaning depends on context, and there is no single universally accepted definition.

In historical and archaeological literature, dubbelering may describe a fortification layout consisting of two concentric ringworks or ringwalls, i.e., a double ring fortification. In jewelry and fashion discourse, dubbelering can refer to a design featuring two rings worn together, either linked or mounted as a single piece, sometimes described as a double-ring or double-hoop design. In printing, design, or visual arts, the term may appear informally to denote a motif in which two circular elements form a pair.

The usage is limited and specialized; most Dutch speakers would instead employ more precise terms depending on the domain (for example, dubbelringwal in fortifications or dubbelring in jewelry). The word’s literal meaning is the act or result of making something double-ringed, in line with Dutch morphology.
