Driftsstart refers to the initial phase of a drift in automotive motorsport. It is the critical moment when a driver intentionally initiates a loss of traction in the rear wheels, typically by executing a specific maneuver. This action is the foundation of a drift, which is a driving technique where the driver intentionally oversteers, causing a loss of traction in the rear wheels or all tires, while maintaining control and maneuvering the car through turns.

The common methods to achieve driftsstart include the clutch kick, where the driver abruptly disengages and re-engages the clutch to momentarily cut power and break traction, and the handbrake turn, where the parking brake is applied to lock the rear wheels, forcing them to slide. Other techniques involve power oversteer, where sufficient engine power is applied to overcome the rear tires' grip, or Scandinavian flick, a rapid change in direction to unbalance the car and induce oversteer.
