Drathos is a fictional character from the Final Fantasy series, first appearing in Final Fantasy X as a major antagonist. Created by game designer Yoshinori Kitase and designed by Tetsuya Nomura, Drathos serves as the primary villain of the game’s main story. His character is notable for his tragic backstory, complex motivations, and significant influence on the plot.

Originally a human named Yuna’s father, Drathos was a former Blighted who was cured of his condition through an experimental procedure. However, the treatment left him with a deep-seated hatred for the Blight and the world of Spira, believing that his suffering was unjust. Over time, he became consumed by his resentment, eventually embracing his monstrous form and joining the Sin, a powerful entity that feeds on despair. His actions drive much of the conflict in Final Fantasy X, as he seeks to destroy Spira and its inhabitants, viewing them as corrupt and deserving of annihilation.

Drathos’ design blends elements of a monstrous, skeletal figure with glowing red eyes and a jagged, armored exterior, reflecting his corrupted state. His voice actor in the original Japanese version was Junko Hori, while his English voice was provided by Christopher Sabat. The character’s tragic arc explores themes of vengeance, redemption, and the consequences of unchecked hatred, making him one of the more memorable antagonists in the series.
