Doublerope

Doublerope is a term used in ropework contexts to denote a configuration or technique in which two ropes are used within a single system to improve redundancy, control, or load distribution. In practical terms, it can refer to either parallel dual-rope rigging, where two independent lines share an anchor and operate through separate devices, or to a doubled rope arrangement in which a single line is folded to create two parallel strands that are anchored or belayed as a single life line.

The exact usage of the term varies by discipline and region, and there is no single standard definition. Some manuals describe doublerope as a method to increase safety in high-load or disaster scenarios by reducing the risk of single-rope failure; others use it to describe a method of halving work-load on a single device by using a second rope.

Techniques typically require specialized training and equipment, including separate belay devices or friction attachments for each rope, independent anchors, and careful management of rope wear and kinks. Core principles include redundancy, equalization of load between strands where possible, and thorough inspection of ropes, knots, and hardware.
