Dorée

Dorée, also known as John Dory, is a species of marine ray-finned fish belonging to the family Zeidae. It is found in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, from Norway and Sweden to Senegal and the Congo River, and also in the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea. It inhabits sandy and muddy bottoms at depths of 10 to 300 meters, but occasionally occurs in shallower waters.

The John Dory is a distinctive-looking fish with a deep, compressed body, a large head, and a pointed snout. Its most striking feature is a prominent, dark eyespot on each flank, believed to ward off predators or confuse prey. The fish is typically yellowish-brown or greenish-grey in color and can grow up to 90 centimeters in length, though they usually reach around 50 centimeters. They possess long dorsal and anal fins with spiny rays.

This fish is a solitary, predatory species that ambushes its prey, which consists mainly of smaller fish and crustaceans. It is a relatively slow-moving fish, relying on its camouflage and the element of surprise. The Dorée is considered a valuable food fish in many parts of its range, prized for its firm, white flesh. It is often caught using trawls, seines, or lines.
