Dolom

Dolom is a fictional municipality in the Montara region of Valoria, a sovereign state used in worldbuilding and genre fiction. It covers about 18 square kilometers and had a population of around 6,200 in 2023. The name Dolom derives from the local dialect, meaning "water meadow."

Dolom lies in a river valley, bounded by the Dolom Range to the north. Elevation ranges from 320 to 520 meters. The landscape combines farmland, mixed forests and limestone outcrops. The climate is temperate with alpine influences, with warm summers and snowy winters.

The economy relies on tourism, agriculture and small manufacturing. Dairy, timber products and artisanal crafts are common. The town has a regional railway station and is connected by the national road network. Healthcare is provided by a local clinic; education is served by two primary schools and one secondary school.

The settlement is documented from the 12th century and received town rights in 1450. It was historically part of the Duchy of Montara and became part of the Valorian federation in the 19th/20th century. Local government operates under a mayor-council system with a 12-member council.

The population is predominantly Valorian-speaking, with small communities speaking minority languages. The Dolom Festival, held every August, is a regional cultural highlight. The old town center features a 15th-century parish church and timber-framed houses.
