Digitaalikytkimiä

Digitaalikytkimiä, often translated as digital switches or digital logic gates, are fundamental electronic components that perform logical operations on one or more binary inputs to produce a single binary output. They are the building blocks of all digital circuits, including microprocessors, memory, and control systems. The state of a digital switch is represented by one of two distinct voltage levels, typically interpreted as '0' (low) or '1' (high).

The most common types of digitaalikytkimiä include AND, OR, NOT, NAND, NOR, XOR, and XNOR gates. An AND gate outputs '1' only if all its inputs are '1'. An OR gate outputs '1' if at least one of its inputs is '1'. A NOT gate, also known as an inverter, outputs the opposite of its single input. NAND and NOR gates are universal gates, meaning any other logic gate can be constructed from them. XOR gates output '1' if their inputs are different, while XNOR gates output '1' if their inputs are the same.

These components are implemented using semiconductor transistors, most commonly MOSFETs (Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistors). The arrangement and interconnection of these transistors determine the logical function of the digitaalikytkin. The development and miniaturization of digitaalikytkimiä have been central to the progress of computing and electronics, enabling the creation of increasingly complex and powerful digital devices.
