Diastoleban

Diastoleban is a term used in theoretical discussions of cardiac physiology to describe a hypothetical agent or mechanism that would specifically modulate the diastolic phase of the cardiac cycle. It is not an established drug, molecule, or therapy approved by regulatory agencies.

Derived from diastole, the relaxation phase of the heart, and the suffix -ban, which in pharmacology often denotes inhibition, diastoleban is mainly found in thought experiments, model simulations, or speculative literature rather than clinical research.

In speculative models, diastoleban could be imagined to slow myocardial relaxation, lengthen diastole, or alter ventricular compliance. Proposed mechanisms include modulation of calcium cycling in cardiomyocytes, changes to passive stiffness of the ventricular wall, or interference with cross-bridge cycling during relaxation. It is important to note that these are hypothetical constructs rather than established biology.

There is no empirical evidence or clinical development for a diastoleban, so it remains a theoretical construct. In real medicine, diastolic dysfunction is treated with established heart failure therapies that target relaxation and stiffness rather than a diastole-targeted antagonist.
