Dialektiset

Dialektiset is a Finnish term describing features that belong to or characterize a dialect. It is used to refer to elements of a language that are typical of regional or social varieties rather than the standard or prestige variety. The concept covers multiple levels of language, including phonology (sound systems), morphology (inflection and word formation), syntax ( sentence structure), and lexicon (vocabulary).

Dialektiset variation can occur across geographic areas as well as among social groups. Features may be stable within a community or vary with context, such as age, education, or formality. The line between a dialectal feature and a standard form is often fluid, especially in contexts of language contact, diglossia, or ongoing language change. Dialectal forms can coexist with the standard language in everyday speech, education, media, and writing.

Researchers map regional distributions, examine how features spread or retreat, and explore related historical processes.
