Dermatoszkópia

Dermatoszkópia, also known as dermatoscopy or epiluminescence microscopy, is a non-invasive medical imaging technique used by dermatologists and other healthcare professionals to examine skin lesions. It involves the use of a dermatoscope, an instrument that combines a magnifying lens with a light source. This specialized device allows for a magnified, illuminated view of the skin's surface, and crucially, beneath the uppermost layers.

The primary purpose of dermatoszkópia is to aid in the diagnosis of skin conditions, particularly melanoma and other skin cancers. By visualizing structures and patterns within a lesion that are not visible to the naked eye, such as pigment networks, dots, globules, and streaks, clinicians can differentiate between benign moles and potentially malignant growths. This enhanced visualization can improve the accuracy of diagnosis and help determine whether a lesion requires further investigation, such as a biopsy.

Dermatoszkópia is a valuable tool in routine skin examinations and for monitoring changes in existing moles over time. It is also used to assess other skin conditions like inflammatory dermatoses, infections, and hair disorders. The procedure is quick, painless, and does not require any special preparation from the patient. The findings from a dermoscopic examination are often documented with digital photographs for comparison during follow-up appointments.
