Deontischer

Deontischer is an adjective used in philosophy and logic to describe concepts, theories, or systems that concern duties, obligations, permissions, and prohibitions. In German-language discussions, deontisch refers to the normative modality that governs what agents ought to do, may do, or must refrain from doing. The deontic perspective focuses on how norms constrain behavior rather than on descriptive states of the world.

In deontic logic, the central notions are typically expressed with modal operators. The standard operators include Oφ meaning “it is obligatory that φ,” Pφ meaning “it is permissible that φ,” and Fφ meaning “it is forbidden that φ” (often defined as the negation of permission). A common feature is the use of possible-worlds semantics to formalize how normative statements relate to contexts or idealized worlds. The logic aims to capture reasoning about duties, permissions, and prohibitions in a precise, rule-governed way.
