Denuclearization
Denuclearization is the process of eliminating nuclear weapons and related capabilities, or the removal of nuclear weapons from a region. In practice, denuclearization may be pursued as complete disarmament or as regional denuclearization coupled with verification measures. It often involves declaratory commitments, dismantling of weapons or production facilities, removing enriched uranium or separated plutonium, and converting facilities to peaceful use.
Verification is central, typically through IAEA safeguards, inspections, environmental sampling, and, in regional agreements, continuous monitoring.
