Dentinarten
Dentinarten refers to the different forms and developmental categories of dentin, the calcified tissue beneath enamel and surrounding the dental pulp. Dentin is produced by odontoblasts and exhibits a tubular microstructure that can vary with formation, age, and stimulus.
Primary dentin forms during tooth development and makes up most of the dentin before eruption. Within primary
Secondary dentin forms after the tooth has erupted and continues throughout life, albeit slowly. Its ongoing
Tertiary dentin is produced in response to localized stimuli such as attrition, caries, or restorative procedures.
In addition to these classifications, aging and pathology can cause dentin changes such as sclerotic dentin.
