Deglycyrrhinated
Deglycyrrhinated is an adjective used to describe licorice-derived materials from which glycyrrhizin has been substantially reduced or removed. The most common form is deglycyrrhinated licorice, often abbreviated as DGL. Glycyrrhizin is a glycoside found in licorice root that can contribute to strong sweetness as well as potential adverse effects at high intake, notably mineralocorticoid-like symptoms such as elevated blood pressure and low potassium. Deglycyrrhinated preparations aim to preserve other licorice constituents while minimizing these risks.
Deglycyrrhinated licorice is produced by processing licorice root to lower glycyrrhizin content, typically through resin-based adsorption,
