Defibrilloitavissa refers to a state or condition where a person's heart rhythm can be restored to a normal beat through the use of a defibrillator. This typically applies to specific life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias such as ventricular fibrillation (VF) and pulseless ventricular tachycardia (VT). In these conditions, the heart's electrical activity is chaotic and disorganized, preventing it from effectively pumping blood. A defibrillator delivers an electrical shock to the heart, momentarily stopping all electrical activity. This brief pause allows the heart's natural pacemaker to potentially re-establish a normal, organized rhythm.

The ability for a heart rhythm to be defibrillated is crucial in the immediate management of sudden cardiac arrest. When a person experiences sudden cardiac arrest due to VF or pulseless VT, prompt defibrillation significantly increases the chances of survival. Automated external defibrillators (AEDs) are designed for use by laypeople and are increasingly available in public spaces. They analyze the heart rhythm and will only advise a shock if the rhythm is determined to be defibrillable. This technology aims to make life-saving intervention accessible until advanced medical help arrives. Not all cardiac arrests are defibrillable; for instance, asystole (flatline) and pulseless electrical activity (PEA) do not respond to defibrillation and require different resuscitation measures.
