Defektengineering
Defektengineering is a multidisciplinary field that studies the deliberate creation, manipulation, and control of defects within materials and devices to tailor their properties. The term, derived from defect engineering in materials science, encompasses point defects such as vacancies and interstitials, extended defects like dislocations and grain boundaries, and more complex defect clusters. The goal is to understand how defects influence physical properties such as strength, conductivity, diffusion, optical response, and catalytic activity, and to engineer defect populations to optimize performance.
