Datsuns

Datsun was a brand of automobiles manufactured by Nissan Motor Company, Ltd. The Datsun marque was primarily used for export markets, while the domestic Japanese market primarily used the Nissan brand. The Datsun name was officially retired in 1986, replaced by the Nissan brand globally.

The first Datsun vehicle, the DAT Datsun, was produced in 1931. The company's early models were small, economical cars, often based on European designs. Datsun gained popularity in the United States during the 1950s and 1960s with its compact and fuel-efficient vehicles. Notable Datsun models from this era include the Datsun Bluebird, Datsun Fairlady (later to become the Nissan Z car), and the Datsun 510.

The Datsun 240Z, introduced in 1969, was a significant success, offering a stylish sports car at a competitive price. This model helped establish Datsun as a serious player in the automotive market. Throughout the 1970s, Datsun continued to expand its lineup with models like the Datsun B210 and the Datsun 710.

In 1981, Nissan began phasing out the Datsun name in favor of its parent company's name, Nissan, in key markets. This rebranding effort aimed to unify the company's global identity and leverage the established Nissan name. The transition was completed by 1986, with all vehicles formerly sold under the Datsun brand now carrying the Nissan name. Despite the name change, many classic Datsun vehicles remain highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts.
