Daredevil

Daredevil is a fictional superhero in Marvel Comics. The character, real name Matthew Michael Murdock, is a blind lawyer who fights crime in New York City's Hell's Kitchen. He was created by Stan Lee and artist Bill Everett and first appeared in Daredevil #1 (April 1964). Blinded as a child by radioactive exposure, Murdock's remaining senses are heightened into a radar sense that helps him navigate the world. He fights crime as Daredevil while maintaining a day job at the law firm Nelson & Murdock with his friend Foggy Nelson. He is aided by ally Elektra Natchios at times and has associations with the Defenders; his chief adversaries include Wilson Fisk (the Kingpin), Bullseye, and The Hand. He is trained in martial arts and acrobatics and commonly uses his billy clubs.

Publication history and reception: Frank Miller's late-1980s run revitalized Daredevil's noir tone and produced the acclaimed Born Again storyline, shaping the character's modern image. The title has had influential runs by Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev, Mark Waid, and Chip Zdarsky, among others, exploring crime, justice, and personal struggle.

In other media: Daredevil has been adapted for film and television. The 2003 feature film Daredevil starred Ben Affleck, followed by Elektra in 2005. From 2015 to 2018, the Netflix series Daredevil starred Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock and ran three seasons, with crossovers involving The Punisher. Cox reprised the role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). A Disney+ series, Daredevil: Born Again, announced for Marvel Studios’ Phase Five, is set to reintroduce the character with Cox again in the title role.
