Danuvius
Danuvius is a Celtic god associated with the Danube River. His name is derived from the Proto-Celtic word for "deep" or "swift," reflecting the characteristics of the river itself. Evidence for his worship comes primarily from Roman inscriptions found along the Danube frontier, particularly in the provinces of Pannonia and Noricum, which are modern-day Austria, Hungary, and surrounding areas. These inscriptions often identify him with Roman deities, most commonly Jupiter or Mars, suggesting a process of syncretism where local gods were equated with Roman ones.
The cult of Danuvius appears to have been localized to the regions directly influenced by the Danube.
