Dallas

Dallas is a city in North Texas, United States, and the county seat of Dallas County. It is the third-largest city in Texas by population and a principal city in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. As of the 2020 census, the city had about 1.3 million residents; the metro area is home to roughly 7.5 million.

The city was founded in 1841 as a trading post and was named for George Mifflin Dallas, who would later serve as U.S. vice president. Dallas was incorporated in 1856 and grew with railroad expansion and commercial development.

Dallas has a diversified economy anchored in telecommunications, information technology, financial services, defense and engineering, energy, and healthcare. Major companies with a Dallas presence include AT&T, Comerica, and Southwest Airlines, and the city is a hub for startups and venture funding.

The city hosts the Dallas Arts District, which includes the Dallas Museum of Art, the Nasher Sculpture Center, and the Meyerson Symphony Center. Notable districts include Deep Ellum and Uptown. Attractions include the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, Reunion Tower, and the Dallas Zoo.

Transportation and climate: Dallas is served by Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas Love Field, with major highways I-20, I-30, and I-35E. Public transit is provided by DART. The climate is humid subtropical, with hot summers, mild winters, and variable precipitation.
