I35E

I-35E is the eastern branch of Interstate 35 in the United States, existing in two separate segments that run parallel to the main I-35 corridor and eventually rejoin the main route. It is one of two suffixed routes created along I-35, the other being I-35W. In both Texas and Minnesota, I-35E serves as an alternate, urban-centered branch designed to route through traffic around downtown cores while connecting to regional north–south and east–west routes.

In Texas, I-35E runs through the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area on the eastern side of the I-35 corridor. It serves Dallas and several eastern suburbs, providing access to downtown Dallas and to various business and residential corridors. The route intersects multiple major highways and is a key component of the region’s north–south mobility. It is maintained by the Texas Department of Transportation.

In Minnesota, I-35E is the eastern leg of I-35 through the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area. It passes through downtown Saint Paul and the eastern suburbs, functioning as a major north–south route in the metro. The eastern and western branches of I-35 reconnect to reform I-35 beyond the metropolitan area. The Minnesota segment is maintained by the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

History and designation: The I-35W/I-35E split was established during the development of the Interstate Highway System to improve traffic flow around dense urban centers.
