DPmittaus

DPmittaus, or dP-mittaus, refers to the measurement of the differential pressure across a component or section of a fluid system. The differential pressure dP is the difference between two pressure readings, typically expressed as P1 − P2 and measured in pascals or kilopascals. The technique is used to evaluate flow resistance, monitor equipment condition, and support process control.

Measurement is performed with differential pressure sensors, manometers, or instrumentation modules that connect to two pressure ports. Readings may be monitored in real time or logged for trend analysis. Accurate DP-mittaus requires proper sensor selection for the expected range, correct installation (to minimize leaks and flow disturbances), and regular calibration and zeroing. Temperature, static pressure, and media properties can affect readings and must be accounted for.

DP-mittaus has wide applications. In heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), it is used to monitor air filters and ductwork for clogging. In process industries, differential pressure across filters, valves, or orifices helps determine flow rates, detect fouling, or verify performance of components such as pumps and compressors. In cleanrooms and containment environments, differential pressure between spaces is a key safety parameter.

For flow-rate estimation, dP measurements are interpreted using established relations that depend on geometry and flow regime; for example, orifice plates and venturi tubes are described by differential-pressure flow equations. Standards and guidelines from organizations such as ISO provide methods for calibration, installation, and data interpretation.
