DMXSwitched

DMXSwitched refers to devices and techniques in professional lighting that use the DMX512 control protocol to switch electrical loads on and off. It covers relay-based switch packs, solid-state switch modules, and integrated control features in power distribution systems. The goal is to enable remote, DMX-driven control of power or signal routing to fixtures, effects devices, or other equipment.

A typical DMXSwitched unit includes a DMX512 input, a control processor, switching outputs (relays or solid-state switches), and protection such as fuses and isolation between the DMX data circuit and the switched load. Many devices also offer status indicators and optional remote management, such as RDM. Some models provide programmable latching or sequencing.

Operation assigns DMX channels to outputs. A controller transmits DMX values to determine on/off states; some devices support momentary actuation or latched states, and may incorporate scene or cue-based control for automation.

Applications include powering fixtures, motors, or effects devices, enabling safe startup and shutdown, power sequencing, and rapid changes between looks in theatres, concert venues, broadcast facilities, and architectural lighting installations.

Because DMX512 (512 channels per universe) uses RS-485, proper shielding and grounding are important. DMXSwitched devices typically accept standard DMX connections and provide rated outputs for the intended loads. Users should verify load ratings, electrical safety compliance, and compatibility with existing DMX networks. Some devices switch mains power, while others control only low-voltage or signaling circuits.
