DHCPteenuse
DHCPteenuse refers to the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol service, a network service that automatically configures IP settings for devices on an IP network. It is used to assign IP addresses, subnet masks, default gateways, and other important configuration data to clients, reducing the need for manual setup. In IPv4, the DHCP server provides addresses from defined pools and a range of options; in IPv6, DHCPv6 serves a similar purpose and is often used alongside or in place of other autoconfiguration methods such as SLAAC.
Operation of the service typically follows a four-step exchange known as DORA: a client broadcasts a DHCPDISCOVER
Key components include the DHCP server, the DHCP relay agent, and DHCP clients. Important concepts are scopes
DHCPteenuse is standardized in RFC 2131 and RFC 2132 for DHCPv4, with DHCPv6 defined in RFC 3315
