DHCPasetus

DHCPasetus is the configuration used by a DHCP server or network device to determine how IP configuration is provided to clients on a network. It controls IPv4 address assignment and related parameters, such as the default gateway, subnet mask, and DNS servers, and it applies to DHCPv6 in IPv6 networks as well. The DHCPasetus defines which addresses may be handed out and for how long they stay allocated.

It typically specifies a pool or scope of addresses, a lease duration, and optional settings (options) like DNS servers, domain name, and the default gateway. It may also include static mappings (reservations) that bind a device’s MAC address to a fixed IP. When a client connects, it goes through the DHCP discovery, offer, request, and acknowledgment sequence to obtain its configuration.

DHCPasetus is configured in routers, enterprise servers, and network services such as Windows Server DHCP, ISC DHCP, dnsmasq, and various vendor implementations. Key considerations include avoiding overlaps with statically assigned addresses, selecting appropriate lease times, and using DHCP relays for centralized networks. Security practices address rogue DHCP servers and DHCP snooping to prevent unauthorized configuration.
