Cynipids
Cynipids, or gall wasps, are a diverse group within the family Cynipidae, a group of small wasps that induce the formation of plant galls on primarily oak trees (Quercus) and, to a lesser extent, other hardwoods. They are mostly temperate-zone insects with a worldwide distribution in suitable forests and woodlands. With more than 1,000 described species, cynipids are particularly diverse in the Northern Hemisphere.
